Crisafulli Grade Four Students are making steady progress learning to play recorder. Students have learned that their left hand goes on top and the right hand on the bottom of the recorder and have been working hard to remember to breathe gently and create a good tone. Covering the recorder holes completely so as not to cause squeaks is another aspect of technique that students are working hard to master. If your student's tone is harsh or unpleasant, please remind him or her to breathe gently and cover the holes of the recorder completely.
So far, we have learned the notes B, A, G, and low E. This week we will be learning low D as well.
The following songs are solo songs that students will play for an assessment in the near future:
"Hot Cross Buns", "Pierrot," "Merrily We Roll Along," and "On the Yangtze." Most students have already successfully played "Hot Cross Buns" for me. Students need to be practicing at least 5-10 minutes four times weekly and should be focusing on the songs listed above. Additional practice on "B A Superhero" and "BAGE Blues" would be also be helpful if time allows. Practice "bugs" were handed out to all students this Fall with the incentive of receiving a prize after practicing for 20 ten-minute sessions. All segments of the bug need to be filled out with a date and parents must sign both bugs on the paper for students to be eligible for a prize. "Bugs" and recorder Music are always available on the piano in the Music room. Please remind your student to bring both recorder and music folder to class each week. If your student is struggling or needs extra support, I am available every Tuesday at recess for extra help. Thanks so much for your help and support as our young musicians continue to progress and develop important skills!!
Please note that all Grade Four Recorder students will perform in a concert on
