It's hard to believe it's already that time of year again! Grade Five students need to be thinking about their choices for next year's Music class. You should be receiving a notice from Blanchard and Stony Brook Middle Schools with instructions on how to complete a short online survey with your child's selection no later than Friday, April 29, 2016. The choices for Music in Grade Six at Blanchard Middle School are: Band, Chorus, Orchestra or General Music. For many of our students who participate in more than one ensemble, this can be a difficult decision. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about next year's Music Curriculum.
March is Music In Our Schools Month. At Robinson School, we are celebrating Music In Our Schools and Homes in a very special way through the Family Folk Song Project. Students will be learning a song from an adult at home. This song should be one that the parent or adult learned as a child.
Students will be writing the lyrics or words of the song on paper and bringing it in to class to share during the week of March 21st-25th. Students can sing or speak the words to share the song with the class. I am happy to help students present songs if they are more comfortable. Other options include recording or videotaping the song to share with the class. We would love to hear any song that an adult remembers from childhood including lullabies, hand-clapping games or finger-play. Songs in different languages and from other cultures are encouraged as well. Thanks so much for your help with The Family Folk Song Project!! I look forward to hearing your family's song!! |
