The results are in and we had a wonderful experience with the Family Folk Song Project in Grade Two at Robinson School during the month of March and in Grade Three at Crisafulli School during the month of December. In Grade Two, there were 89 songs brought in by students and shared. My two Grade Three classes (Mrs. Rutman and Mrs. Eddy) had 49 songs in total. Of all those songs, there were around 50 that were in English (about one third) and the rest were in different languages from many other countries. Foreign language songs came from the countries of India, China, England, Ireland, France, Korea, Canada, Scotland, Greece, Spain, Vietnam, Russia, Italy, Germany, Jamaica, Phillipines and Puerto Rico. Popular choices included "You Are My Sunshine," "Frere Jacques", "Miss Mary Mack", and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Old Favorites were shared such as "Old MacDonald," "Skip to My Lou," "This Land Is Your Land," "I've Been Working On the Railroad," "Yankee Doodle," "London Bridge," "On Top of Spaghetti," and "A Tisket A Tasket" among others. Many of the songs were taught by Moms and some by Dads. The next most popular first Music teachers were Grandparents.
We loved hearing all these wonderful songs from so many different backgrounds and countries!!
It was a fantastic celebration of both Music, family and the unique heritage of our students.
Thank you so much for your help and support with this great project!!
